hej hej københavn...

after 3 years and 3 months (to the day!) we are saying farewell to life in denmark and starting a new adventure in SAN FRANCISCO!!! chris has gotten a fancy new job at airbnb and we are really excited for this new chapter in our lives. i am especially excited for new creative connections and opportunities...though of course, i am already feeling sad that we have to leave our life and friends behind in copenhagen. so i will just say "jeg allerede savner dig, men vis ses!!!" (i already miss you, but we'll see [you soon]!!!) xxxxx

my friend liz apple was telling me that her desktop was feeling boring, so instead of working on the 1,256,711 other things i should have been doing instead, i designed this fun wallpaper for her [because she's the cutest] and i thought i'd share with you too! enjoy xx

here fishy fishy... (and happy belated july!)

we've had record-breaking heat waves in denmark this summer and the beaches have been packed even more than usual. in case you're not near a coast, the august desktop i've designed will bring the fish to you. inspired by vintage scandinavian dishtowels, i've always loved the simplicity of fish artwork...perhaps because i'm a pisces?

also, july was a fun-filled, busy month, filled with my mother visiting, chris traveling to the states (double chocolate milano cookies!) and a fantastic summer holiday to switzerland, france and italy, which was sooo lovely. however, i am now belatedly posting maeve's super adorable seagull artwork, so make sure to download it as well!

hello summer!

summer is nearly here, so maeve and i have both been enjoying the sunshine and visits to the beach. (we are both near the atlantic ocean...though of course, VERY far apart ;)

i am very excited to share our june desktop, designed by yours truly, and my favorite one i did this year. hope your new desktop friend makes you happy and brings a bit of the sea right to your computer!

mother's day prints!

i designed FREE mother's day prints for the flying house blog and i'm sooo excited to share tina's photos, she styled them so prettily!!! and her idea of hanging them up with your favorite kids photos is just so sweet. we met through craftenhagen, which she kindly hosts every month in her beautiful apartment. she is genuinely one of the nicest people, while also being insanely stylish, a fantastic chef/baker, a talented crafter, stylist/photographer and mom. how can one person be so amazing??? make sure to visit her beautiful blog here and download my three designs below (A4 size). i made them non-specific enough that they could adorn your walls for weeks or months ;)

april fools

for april, our calendar had the only fictional animal of the bunch--the elusive jackalope! i learned that some of our european followers had never even heard of this creature, someone told me they thought we had just put antlers onto a bunny "just because" haha. since living abroad, it's been interesting learning how so many things that you feel are common, everyday "facts," are completely unknown to other cultures around the world.

i am SOOO excited to reveal the 2014 calendar collaboration from maeve and i! we had so much fun brainstorming and designing animal friends to adorn your walls. we added space on the printed calendar for notes and made the desktop backgrounds easier on the eyes so your icons no longer get lost. thanks so much to everyone for the calendar love, it makes us happy how involved and excited you are, hugs and high fives from both sides of the sea!

6 degrees [of postcards]

the current show at light grey art lab is the 6 degrees show, and i am fortunate to be one of the artists donning their gallery walls. the theme was to design a postcard showcasing where you live and sending 100 of them to LGAL to be redistributed to all artists involved, so that you have THE BEST MAIL DAY EVER when you get a giant pack of postcards from artists around the world! i styled my artwork to mimic minimalistic vintage scandinavian design and drew my color palette from the always lovely nyhavn. i wish i could be there in person to check it out, but to all my minneapolis friends, be sure to stop by--it'll be up until january 17th. 2013 calendar

calendar sneak peek

i am working on a calendar with my [extremely talented super nice] friend maeve again and i am so excited about the updates we're making for our sophomore attempt! (junior attempt actually, as we did a calendar with our friends kara and sarah two years ago...miss you!)

here is a sneak peek at some work in progress that may or may not end up included. it's so much fun making a million colorways, i don't know how i'll ever choose...

presenting...

he came exactly on his due date...an amazing feat as both his parents are infamous for being late.

we had names picked out and were planning on knowing instantly once we met him what he should be called. but we were too enamored by the amazingness that is a new baby and we delayed making a final decision. luckily for us in denmark they give you up to six months to name your child. every danish neighbor he met completely understood why he was nameless. so we took advantage of this cultural difference and spent the first few weeks just spending time with our little one, getting to know his personality and practiced saying names until one sounded just right.

so...with my favorite picture of him to accompany the news, we officially present OLIVER! the name fits both his looks and personality perfectly. his middle name is vietnamese and means happiness, optimism and positivity. a perfect name for our happy little baby bebo!

gotta catch 'em all

my extremely talented friends at paper bicycle have started a fantastic new venture named light grey art lab and i am excited to be one of the 151 artists in their next group show--the pokémon battle royale! all of the artists have put their own personal style on the original 151 pokémon characters so it will definitely be a fun show to see. i had lickitung...and he REALLY wanted some ice cream.

the opening reception is friday april 20th, 7pm at light gray art lab and it's free to attend PLUS there will be refreshments, music and even giveaways! i will only be there in spirit (and artwork), but if you're in the twin cities i hope you will go check it out. (more details here)

happy turkey day!

it has been an eventful year. i had ups and downs and boring normalcy for sure. you always learn from hardships and they only make you stronger. on the flip side, when life gives you something to smile about then be happy and treat yourself (i do--often with sweets). i have so much to be thankful for this year, and feel REALLY lucky to be me.

i miss you US family and friends but skype and facebook (and email, blogs and twitter) keep us as close as you can be while across an ocean...happy thanksgiving to those on the other side of the atlantic!!!
